i am new to PLC. i know about programming using ladder logic. i am good in that but i dont know anything about working with AB plc. how to load the program?
how to configure the PLC?
all together i can say i know hw to build up the logic, but dont know how to implement it..

PLC basic configuration

I am assuming you are talking about RSLOGIX 500. This software serves The SLC 500 family, as well as micrologix PLC's, the RSLOGIX 5 is used for PLC 5 systems. It is almost Identical to RSLOGIX 500.
The primary PLC configuration takes place in the I/O configuration. There are also channel configuratios, but those usually don't need to be used in a PLC that doesn't need to communicate with other PLC's or computers. The micrologix generally doesn't need much other than for you to select the processor. For an SLC 500, you will need to configure what cards are in which slots. If you don't, and load the Program to the processor, the processor will fault. Double click the I/O configuration to open the window. If you are connected to the PLC, you can choose read I/O config. If not select the card from the list, and drag it to the appropriate slot. Not sure what the model of module card you have, power down the PLC, remove the card and look on the side. The information may also be found inside the door.

If you can tell me which processor you have, I can tell you how to connect to it.

I have a decent amount of experience with the SLC 500, Micrologix, and the PLC 5. If you have any questions about these, I am happy to help

its better to start with AB ... its more user friendly .... may siemens has more complicated features but it is not as easy as AB both to program n to trouble shoot n understand ...

The RSLogix5000 has an emulation program, but it is an added cost to the programming software.
SoftPLC who are a real competitor to AB used to provide a tutorial which would program up to 30 rungs and emulate through a 'Softwires' program and uses AB instruction sets.
You should search fro 'SoftPLC and look nat tjier products.

Hi there,

Just to share my knowledge. As far as I know, Siemens from the early basic stage (learning process) is tough. S7-300 contain a LADDER,FBD and ?? ( forgot). The advantahe is, during I stuck on design in Ladder, I could switch to FBD ( Funct Logic Block ). This could help me in solving.
During my study in German Malaysia Institute, PLC SIEMENS S7-300 and SIEMENS S7-400 need to do "hand-on". Should I say, "practice make perfect". Once you had succes in making simulation and appply to motor, you will understand and appreciate SIEMENS. Hence, a booklet for PLC SIEMENS is arrange to make reader to understand how to apply.

After graduate, I'm working with Honeywell, and approach to AB.

I assume AB is quit easy during starting design, but after compile, you need to finish by "error and try". I believe, without training at first time, Its hard for me.

AB IS BY FAR THE MOST USER FRIENDLY PROVIDERS OF PROGRAMMABLE CONTROLLERS.(PERSONAL OPINION)
I SUGGEST YOU USE THE MICROLOGIX 1500 SERIES OR THE SLC 5/03 FAMILY OF PLC.
BASICALLY,YOUR SCADA SHOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE DRIVERS FROM YOUR DROP DOWN MENU'S TO ENABLE COMMS BETWWEEN THE PROCESSOR OF THE PLC....THIS DEPENDS ON WHAT COMMUNICATIONS PROTOCAL YOU ARE USING.
THE I/O AND READ/WRITE DATA FROM THE PLC WILL HAVE TO MANUALLY ENTERED INTO A SPREADSHEET AND 'ALIASED' WITH THE SCADA.
GRAPHICS AND DYNAMICS OF THE PROCESS AND ITS STATUS WILL HAVE TO BE CONFIGURED AS PER USER DISCRETION.

Difference between ControlLogix and RSLogix, Micrologix

ControlLogix and Micrologix are PLCs

RSLogix is a family of software used to program PLCs

more details:

Hardware

ControlLogix: latest generation of PLC from Rockwell Automation (AKA Allen-Bradley). They used tag based addressing, independant communication modules and respect the IEC1131 standard (which define language, datatype, etc .. for all PLC manufacturer)

PLC5: mid-80's to mid-2000's generation of PLC (Still availlable and largely used) that was largely used in heavy industry suach as pulp & paper, mining, automotive, etc ...
Communication was somehow fixed (compared to ControlLogix)

SLC: 90's & 2000's generation of smaller than PLC5 PLCs, with slightly limited capability. they were largely used by smaller industries, and EOM.

they were relatively limited in terms of memory and total count of IO's

Micrologix: smallest line of PLCs by Allen-Bradley. most of them allow only offline editing. often refered to as "Disposable PLCs" they were largely used by OEMs.

Some of them allow up to 16 slot of addttional IOs, and even some possibilities of Remote IOs

Software:

RSLogix 5000: software used to program the Logix family (ControlLogix, Softlogix, CompactLogix and DriveLogix)

Sold by functionalities and language. Standard package includes Ladder Logic. Each additionnal language (FBD, ST, SFC) can be bought separatly, or part of some "PRO" package

RSLogix 500: software used to program the SLC's and Micrologix. It exist in diffenets "flavors" with the most popular ones being the "standard" (support all products) and the "Lite" (supporting the Micrologix)

RSLogix 5: programming package for PLC5

RSLinx: Software that will make the link between your PLCs and your programming software. Alone, the programming software (RSLogix XYZ) DOES NOT know how to "talk" to a PLC; it relies on RSLogix to do so.

The "Lite" package is free when you buy an RSLogix package. most versatile (and expensive) version will allow third party to "talk" to those PLCs (e.g. ("Pro" or "Gateway")

An important feature of the micrologix is it's scan speed. I think 6usec per scan. I found this to be faster than the immediate facility on the PLC's

controlling stepper motors with AB PLC

I am a mech eng tech major working on a PLC project. I using a stepper motor to control a table and need it to rotate either 90 or 180 degrees in both directions. How do I control the motor with the PLC using RSLogic? I have seen C++ programs but I don't know how to interface C++ with the PLC. Any help would be apreciated.

I have rslogix500 version 6.10 rs linx ver 2.4 I am tryin to talk to micrologix 1000 from plc win xp tried configuring a driver and now have three running trying to delete two I added or even stop them but gives me blue screen of death besides not even knowing if I have right cable but also dont know what driver to configure.How can I get rid of other two drivers which say error and are running and get back to the beginning .The one driver running is ok for ethernet but want to hook up seperately to different plc .Can anyone help my it guy is gone so now Iam on my own.
